The MotorLand Aragón circuit has vibrated with the end of the season of the Spanish Endurance and GT Championship, a weekend that has had all the ingredients to put the icing on the cake for an atypical, but very exciting, 2020 campaign. Alcañiz with the champions of all classes, divisions and categories still to be decided, which made this Aragonese test even more interesting.
The grand finale of the V-Line Org championship. It had a very large grid with high-level drivers and mechanics between Touring Cars and GT that have starred in two disputed races. After a very difficult season, the GT-CER has been one of the few world championships that managed to celebrate all the races scheduled in its initial calendar, all thanks to the enormous effort of the organization, the circuits and obviously the teams and drivers. who once again relied on the V-Line Org championships.
The Alcañiz program consisted of 2 days, starting on Saturday with a day that was marked by a fairly wet track in the morning due to the heavy rain the day before, which forced the teams to get their cars ready with the set up adequate and the pilots to go out to dispute the free practice sessions with enough caution. The humidity and low temperatures were present during the first day of this great final.
This first day culminated with a tight Qualifying that was played in the early afternoon with a finally dry track, thanks to the slight increase in temperature and the rain stopped falling, resulting in a quite entertaining time trial session with many overtaking but, above all, the desire to claim the most privileged position on the grid.
Race 1, prelude to a grand finale
Sunday’s first race was settled with an impressive victory for the Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo driven by José Manuel de Los Milagros and Sergio Paulet. De los Milagros started in second position on the grid, just behind the Ferrari 458 of Francesc Gutiérrez, who remained leader of the race during his turn at the wheel, giving a lot of war in some animated battles with his rivals. At the time of the relay, Gutiérrez gave the baton to Josep Mayola, who also started strong and maintained a rhythm that allowed him to continue in the lead, but shortly after starting he began to have technical problems that forced him to lower positions, at which point that Paulet was positioned at the top of the classification crossing the checkered flag first, while Mayola-Gutiérrez entered fourth.
Behind De los Milagros-Paulet were Antonio Sainero-Javier Morcillo (Porsche 911 991 GT3 Cup). Sainero had the first turn at the wheel of the German mechanics and did not stop giving much war to Jaume Font (Porsche 911 991 GT3 Cup), with whom he starred in incessant changes in the classification. 15 minutes after the start of the race, Font managed to overtake Sainero in extremis, snatching third position from him, a place that even his partner Joan Vinyes kept, but when Morcillo’s turn came, he did not hesitate for a second to put full throttle, achieving overtake Vinyes and finish second. Vinyes-Font finished third.
In C3, a special victory for José Luís García-Belén García, father and daughter, who decided to share the wheel of the NM Racing Team’s Ginetta G55 GT4. Regarding the categories that make up the CER, TCR is without a doubt the one with the largest grid in the championship. Here, 3 drivers were clear candidates to be champions and after 48 minutes plus one lap and incessant struggles for the position of honor, finally it was the brothers Rubén and Felipe Fernández (CUPRA León Competición), who climbed to the highest box of the podium. for the first time this season, making an exceptional demonstration on the Alcañiz track. Behind came Guillermo Aso (CUPRA TCR) and Dídac Ros-Pedro Peña (CUPRA TCR DSG).
In D2, another victory for Alejandro Cutillas-Álvaro Vela (Peugeot 308 Cup), a victory that gave them a good score for the second race. Iván Velasco-Adrián García did the same in D3, while Frenchman Jeremie Lesoudier (Clio Cup IV), this time alone, managed to take the lead against his main rivals in D4. The Renault Clio Cup V of Alejandro Schimpf-Adrián Schimpf sentenced the D5, ahead of the Mini Challenge of Daniel García-Andre Macedo.
Second race: the icing on the cake
After an intense first round marked by long braking, spectacular overtaking and a great thirst to fight for the last points of the season, the riders again faced the Aragonese track, which saw José Manuel de los Milagros-Sergio Paulet get the double at the end week by adding a new win. The CYL Karting Team flag bearers continued throughout the race battling alongside Francesc Gutiérrez and Josep Mayola, who did not stop on their heels at all times. Even so, those of PCR Sport only managed to reach the second absolute position of the sleeve, which gave them the last points that would crown them 2020 champions of the Spanish GT Championship. Philipp Gruau-Arnaud Gomez were third.
As far as TCR is concerned, this time it was Mikel Azcona-Evgeni Leonov the fastest. This victory allowed Leonov to finalize the points that awarded him the championship and Azcona the runner-up.
